AMON AMARTH, the Swedish death metal band, has announced the release of their new album, "The Allfather Awakens", set for October 2 via Metal Blade Records. This 10-track masterpiece continues the band's tradition of blending memorable riffs with melodic power, all centered around the Norse deity Oden, the "all father" of war, wisdom, death, magic, and poetry.
The album is not a concept album but a collection of historically inspired tales of conflict and sacrifice for a greater good, much like their previous records. The opening track, "Gjallarhorn", is a furious, upbeat classic that fuses a driving guitar riff with a catchy chorus, a stark contrast to the stripped-back "Upphaf", which carried the solemnity of an oral history. AMON AMARTH's live performances have become legendary, with the band headlining major rock and metal festivals worldwide, including Wacken Open Air in 2024 and Bloodstock Open Air in the UK. Their music resonates with a diverse audience, from pre-teens to 60-somethings, and has inspired a unique fan phenomenon known as the "Viking row", where fans imitate rowing an invisible longship in unison during the band's performances.
